Revaluing plastic, a concrete gesture in the service of people and the environment.
As a manufacturer of narrow textiles, we use threads every day to create ribbons, straps, braids and cords. These threads, delivered on plastic cones and spools, represent a source of waste for us. However, for several years now, we have been actively involved in a circularity approach to recycle these plastic materials. Today, we are proud to announce that this objective has been achieved, thanks to the Solidarité Bouchon association.
This initiative, led by Anouk Canillos at @Satab, is a simple action that has a lasting impact on the planet and society. Find out in this article how this collaboration perfectly illustrates our commitment to a more responsible and united future.
Anouk explains it all to you!💬
-Who are you at Satab and what do you do on a daily basis?
At Satab I’m a QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety and Environment) technician. My role is to look after staff safety and improve their working conditions by identifying and preventing potential risks through various projects (workstation ergonomics, raising awareness of good practices, improving equipment, etc.). I’m also in charge of the company’s environmental management, with the aim of limiting our ecological footprint and promoting more sustainable consumption patterns. This includes managing and reducing our waste.
-Why do we have plastic cones and what do we use them for?
The manufacture of our ribbons begins with the yarns we receive wound on plastic cones, which protect them and make them easier to use on our machines. Once the thread has been used, all that’s left is the plastic.
-How many plastic cones do we accumulate each year?
At present, we are at around 10 to 12 tonnes a year.
-What does Solidarité Bouchon do at Satab?
Solidarité Bouchon is an association that collects plastic corks, cones and reels, which are then sold to a company that recycles them. The revenue generated is used to purchase equipment for people with disabilities.
-What are our objectives with this approach?
Our objectives are clear: to recover our waste, reduce waste and move towards a more circular economy. The recycling of our plastic cones fits in perfectly with this approach. Thanks to this action, we are giving a second life to our plastic waste while supporting a worthy cause. It’s a concrete gesture that fits in with our approach and also makes sense in human terms. Many thanks to the association’s teams!
-What is our vision for the future?
For the future, we aspire to continue our commitment to sustainable consumption by constantly exploring new responsible practices and alternatives. The aim is to maximise recycling and minimise our environmental impact.
